Gourd are quite durable, but it is important to take good care of your gourd art.
We spend hours cleaning each gourd prior to applying a design. Then, we use the finest dyes, stains, paints, and varnishes to create a high-quality and durable finish. Nevertheless, please keep in mind these important points:
Avoid exposure to direct sunlight to reduce the possibility of fading or discoloration. Even with the best finishes with UV filters, colors made fade.
Do not expose the gourd to the weather unless it has been treated with an outdoor varnish. Even so, recognize that exposure to the weather inevitably will result in a degradation of the finish.
Handle the gourd as you would china or glassware – gourds can crack or break if dropped or subjected to impact.
Use a soft lint-free cloth to lightly dust the surface of the gourd. Do not use water or household cleaning chemicals.
Interior surfaces tend to be rougher in texture, and will collect dust. Gently blow out the interior periodically – you can use a can of compressed air such as those intended for cleaning computer keyboards.
Gourds can be used as containers. However, we recommend the use of a plastic liner for plants or a cloth liner when serving foods (unless the interior has been treated with a food-safe beeswax coating.
Do not put the gourd in the oven or microwave. If you wish to use the gourd as a food warmer, use a ceramic warming tile.
